Slowing

Rationality slaps me in the cheeks

Palm connects to vulnerability

And silliness

And almost embarrassment

But what is this hollowness inside

And aching quietness as the world spins around

Detached and disembodied conversations float around

In a haze of life and screaming mothers and text conversations, all politely answered

What is this remembrance of you – specifically that rush of gratification – and then an embarrassed attempt to preserve your memory as something I like better.

You:

Your smiling face and eyes curved like a happy cat

Your giggles and single trembling breaths,

Your comfort with me

Fitting into

Almost

Perfect

Harmony.

But no.
